I’m a strongman. I’ll Love the sport ’til I die! Although there are many different fitness topics in this blog, Strongman is the sport I’m most inclined to discuss. Anyone wishing to post their fitness routines/diets/workouts on Infonian.com is more than welcome to! Just send me your workout to workouts@infonian.com and I will be MORE than happy to evaluate it, post it on the homepage, and give you valuable feedback…FOR FREE!!!
That’s it. No catch. I’m not going to ask for payment in anyway anyhow. I just take pride in learning how athletes, like you, do what they love and helping them out however I can. It seems that I tried every diet and exercise program out there, but nothing seemed to work. But then I discovered something that helped me lose 30 pounds in 30 days. I worked my butt off to get that far, and some things worked better than others – but they all made me feel very tired and lethargic, almost like I was still pregnant! Wu Long Tea (oolong tea): Does it really help you lose weight?

You’ve probably seen the advertisements:
“Drink wu long tea and lose a jeans size every 7 days!”…
“Burn 20 lbs of fat in 30 days with wu long tea!” …
Maybe you even watched Oprah a few years ago when Dr. Perricone said that switching your coffee for green tea would help you take off the pounds.
You may have also read or watched countless news stories which say how healthy it is to drink green tea.
The odds are good that if you’re interested in improving your health and losing fat, you probably either drink tea, take a green tea supplement or you’ve at least thought about it.
But what if I told you that most of the fat reducing claims for green tea were absolute, total BS, based on misinterpretation or deliberate misreporting of the research?
Unfortunately, it’s true. If you’ve bought green tea based on the claim that it causes large reductions in body fat, then you have been scammed.
Here are the facts:
Green tea DOES stimulate your metabolism.
However, the research is very unclear about what kind of impact this small, short term increase in metabolism will have on your bodyweight in the long term.
In the most often quoted study (Dulloo, 1999), A swiss research team found that 270 mg of green tea extract 3X a day increased metabolic rate by the equivalent of about 79 calories on average and increased the oxidation of fat as the fuel source.
If you do the math, it appears that 79 kcal a day would add up to an extra pound of fat lost every 44 days. Not much, but you’ll take it, right? Hypothetically, that would add up to an extra 8 pounds lost per year.
What advertisements quoting this study don’t tell you is that this and other similar studies did not even measure long term change in body fat percentage or bodyweight. They only measured a 24- hour increase in energy expenditure.
One study which is used as marketing ammunition to claim that wu long tea burns 2.5 times more fat than green tea was based only on a 120-minute increase in energy expenditure! (reminds me of that Mark Twain quote: “There are lies, damned lies, and then there are statistics.”)
Numerous follow up studies have confirmed the short term increase in metabolism, but the studies are mixed on whether green tea improves weight reduction or maintenance in the long term.
The research IS compelling, but not conclusive.
As for ad claims that say you’ll lose a lot of weight just from drinking green tea… absolute BS! Hopefully the Federal Trade Commission will catch up with these scammers sooner rather than later, as the marketing messages on the Internet are getting louder and bolder every day.
As for health benefits – green tea is certainly a champ. It’s high in antioxidants and there are more than 2,000 research citations about potential health benefits of green tea (not to mention a 5,000 year history of use in China and the far east).
Even if you’re a skeptic, green tea is hard not to like and it’s hard to dispute that it’s a good idea to add green tea to your nutrition program as one part of a well-balanced fitness lifestyle.
But when it comes to claims for large and rapid losses in bodyweight and bodyfat, (especially the wu long tea ads that are currently all over the internet), buyer beware.
The science we do have says that the thermogenic effect of green tea – while very real – is also very small.

The legions of fitness men all over the world will agree that developing a well-defined midsection can be the most challenging part of working-out. Stored fat around the belly tends to be the most stubborn when trying to trim down and lose body fat. The effort of trying to get rid of love handles and a cushy tummy can get very frustrating at times and a lot of people give up.
Our anatomy is such that the excess calories we don’t expend our stored as fat and this is concentrated mostly around our midsection. It’s quite unattractive to walk around with a potbelly, so losing belly fat tops the list for gym goers everywhere.
Gym exercises require repetitions that can become tiresome and boring after a while. With lower ab exercises for women, it’s tougher to stay motivated because their body fat is usually found in the lower part of the belly, hips and thighs.
Because body fat tends to leave the lower abdomen last, it may seem like progress in terms of getting a six pack is slower than developing other parts of the body. As such, a lot of folks try to do lower ab exercises more.
Isolating the lower part of the rectus abdominus by trying to target the lower abs is quite impossible because it’s really all one single muscle. There are lower ab exercises however that put more stress on that area: air-pedaling while on one’s back, vertical and horizontal leg raises, and different versions of such.
The monotonous nature of repetitions and seemingly slower progress developing the lower abs make it a challenge to keep working regularly. This can be remedied by either working-out with a partner, using alternative devices like a medicine ball, or switching to a different type of lower ab exercise every now and then.
Muscle tissue stops growing when it adapts to a specific type of movement. Changing your lower ab exercise routine once you feel like you’ve hit a plateau will help you reach your goal of getting a six-pack a little faster.
By keeping our workouts less monotonous through a gauntlet of different lower ab exercises, we don’t face the risk of getting bored and worse- stop working-out. The best way for radical results is consistency in exercising.
